Word of the day - khùn-thân-khī

khùn-thân-khī
turn sideways (while laying down)

A friend who used be a nurse told me that she was taught this term in order to instruct patients turn sideways.

I don't really know first two words. (Help!!!!)
The third word probably means tilted, in an angle, sort of.

I need to do more research on this one.

Word of the day

pōng thé-tāng
weigh. Take the measurement unit from a scale.

Compare to nîu 量 (nîu thé-tāng)
pōng literally means pound, the unit for weight.
tsı̍t-pōng one pound
gōo-pōng five pound

but using pōng instead of nîu is very authentic way of weighing something/someone on a scale.

nîu is influenced by Chinese usage of taking measure.

hán-bûn: 磅體重
Chinese: 量體重

Welcome to Tâi-gí Tong-tāi 台語當代 Contemporary Tâi-gí

Inspired by a tha̍k-tsheh-huē(study group/forum) event organized by Sè-kài-tâi, This online platform was created with the aim of discussing and translating the most up-to-date world news directly into Tâi-gí (Taiwanese), bypassing the need to go through Mandarin Chinese which dominates Taiwan for over past 70 years, while more than 15 native Taiwanese languages have been suppressed that they all face the unfortunate prospect of extinction.

In order for the younger generations who are interested in picking up Tâigí, we hope that this platform could offer a friendly beginning.

The topics for discussions include but not limited to art, culture, philosophy, current events and any contemporary subjects that are close to our everyday modern life.

I am open to suggestions since I am still figuring out how this could work for the Tâigí speaking community all over the world.

p.s. Just in case you are curious, I am "nobody" according to another inspiring group g0v's famous founding quote: Ask not why nobody is doing this, YOU are the "nobody"!!
